Frequently asked questionsAnswers for coordinators & families
Common questions about referrals, eligibility, and how our Supported Living and Independent Living Services work. Don't see yours? Get in touch — we're glad to help.
What's the difference between Supported Living (SLS) and Independent Living (ILS)?
SLS provides ongoing, hands-on support for people who live in their own homes and need more intensive assistance to stay safe and independent — up to 24-hour and overnight support when authorized.
ILS is skill-building and coaching for people who can live independently but want to develop or maintain everyday abilities like cooking, budgeting, and using transportation. See both programs in detail →
Who is eligible for your services?
We serve adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities who are consumers of a California regional center. Services are accessed through the person's Individual Program Plan (IPP) and must be authorized in writing by the referring regional center before they begin.
Which regional centers do you work with?
Caring About Lives is a vendored provider with the Westside Regional Center and the South Central Los Angeles Regional Center (SCLARC).
What areas do you serve?
We support individuals across the greater Los Angeles area. If you're not sure whether we cover a specific location, contact us and we'll let you know.
How do I make a referral?
Regional center coordinators and families can start a referral through our contact page or by email.
Please include the person's regional center, service coordinator, and the service being requested (SLS or ILS) so we can respond quickly. Vendorization does not guarantee placement — services begin once authorized by the regional center.
Is there a cost to the individual or family?
Regional center services are funded by the regional center when they're authorized in the person's Individual Program Plan (IPP). There is typically no direct charge to the individual or family for authorized services.
Do you provide overnight or 24-hour support?
Yes. Within Supported Living Services, we provide overnight and around-the-clock support when it's authorized in the person's plan. Support always scales to the individual's assessed needs.
How can I join your team?
We hire Direct Support Professionals across both of our programs. Visit our Careers page to see what we look for and to start an application.
